I have never been an athlete or an exerciser of any kind really, but my husband is. He loves to exercise and exercising totally changes his mood. And since he loves exercising, particularly running, so much he decided to sign us up to run the half marathon to raise money for a local school. Yeah, both of us. By now you could probably guess that I do not run. Until yesterday. I started a program called Couch to 10k. It’s a training program for total beginners. It starts from the couch and 10 weeks later you’re running a 10k. I’ve looked at this program a lot and have actually had it on my iPod for a couple of years. The only problem I’ve had with the program is starting it. I’ve never even tried. Until yesterday.
Yesterday I finally completed Day One Week One. Today I will complete Day Two Week One. I finally have the motivation and a goal in sight to help make this program work for me. If you know me, or even if you don’t, please ask me if you think about it how this is going. That will give me extra motivation to keep it up.
Have you ever tried Couch to 10k or something similar? Did it work for you?
Hey, I'm a fellow teacher, but since we moved to Hawaii not teaching. I did this program back in AZ and now I can run no problem! Just stick with it, you will probably find that after 1-2 weeks you can run farther than the plan states. I really just needed it to get past the first few weeks. I WAS NOT A RUNNER by any means, but couldn't get past the side aches, but this did it. What is kind of cool, is I can actually get lazy and not run for several months, and can now pick it right back up. My family and I have ran the Aloha Run here in Honolulu, 8+ miles 2 years in a row now. What music are you listening to? I love good and upbeat worship music, I'll send you some neat Hawaiian worship stuff if you would like. Have fun, and take care of that "temple".
I remember you playing sports in school; basketball, soccer, cheerleading. Later you played volleyball. I think that qualifies you as an athlete. I was very proud of you then and I'm especially proud of you now. Keep blogging about this and you might just get me up off the couch, too.
I used to love to run. Now, not so much. I can't wait to hear how your program goes! Keep us updated! I need some extra motivation myself!
Thanks for the motivation!
Gaye- I would love to hear some of that music. My email is alyson.costner@gmail.com
I listen to all kinds of music, anything up beat. I love Switchfoot.
Alyson,
I started running last year in January and semi followed the same schedule- I think it was couch to 5K. I branched off a little but...I trained for 3 months and then ran my first 5K in the end of March. I also lost a lot of my baby weight in the process. It felt so good to accomplish that and I have run another 5K since then. I have been out of it lately but hope to train again this January. Keep it up! You are right, having a goal helps soooo much! Good luck!
